It was a great day to be down at Little Athletics in Agnes Water last Saturday, the sun was shining and a slight breeze helped cool down the athletes after finishing their races. Among their awards this week, organisers were thrilled to present to the Tiny Tots, as a group, a ‘Star of the Week’ trophy for all the effort they put in every Saturday morning.
All their hard work is showing in the development of their skills. Definitely little stars, one and all!!
U/9 Maxi Wood and U/11 Tom Reynolds, at right, also took home a Star of the Week trophy. Well done boys!
Athletes took part in the 200m and the race walk. The race walk saw a huge improvement in all those that took part. It certainly is a difficult skill to master. Shot put and discus went well for all age groups with a number of personal bests broken.
The U/6’s have come such a way with their technique in their throwing events, it is fantastic to see their determination. High jump also saw personal bests being broken, some athletes even smashing their pb’s by up 10cm!
After the meet Shaun Letham ran a high jump fosbury flop session for those interested 12 years and up. It was met with enthusiasm from everyone. Shaun brought the group back to basics and went through the steps to complete a successful fosbury flop, and assisted in the technique and direction of each athlete. This information is sure to be drawn upon for those competing in High Jump at Regionals.
Regionals will soon be here, 4 weeks to go! This event is open to all the athletes from U/8’s – U/17’s and costs $10 for up to 7 events (5 events for U/7’s and U/8’s).
Nomination forms can be picked up from the canteen on Saturday mornings. Any parents or athletes needing information regarding Regionals please seek out one of the committee members.
