Nominations for Gladstone region’s 2016 Australia Day Awards open soon. Nominations for Gladstone Regional Council’s 2016 Australia Day Awards open later this month.
Gladstone Region Mayor Gail Sellers said nomination forms and selection criteria including eligibility guidelines would be available from 18 September from Council’s offices, customer service centres or website.
“It may seem early to be thinking about Australia Day next year but adequate time is required to allow for the nomination, administration and judging processes,” Councillor Sellers said.
Cr Sellers said Council’s Australia Day Awards offered a chance to recognise residents for outstanding individual talents, efforts or community contributions.
“There is also an Awards’ category which acknowledges a community event or initiative within the Gladstone Region,” she said.
“We also have many, often modest achievers, who selflessly give their time for the betterment of the community and this is a way to express community appreciation for their dedication.
“Residents are encouraged to share the achievements of others and nominate someone whom they feel should be rewarded.”
Gladstone Regional Council’s 2016 Australia Day Awards categories include:
Citizen of the Year
Young Citizen of the Year
Arts & Culture Award
Senior Sportsperson Award
Young Sportsperson Award
Sports Official Award
Community Volunteer Award
Community Event or Initiative Award.
Award nominations must be received by 5pm on Friday, November 6.
