Saturday 28 November marked the third Kung Fu Graduation dinner under the Blue Mantis banner.
This year Agnes Water hosted the annual event. Approximately 70 people attended the function held at the Agnes Water Community Centre with students and friends travelling from as far as Townsville, Melbourne and Canada.
Blue Mantis Local Kung Fu students shone yet again at the awards night. Che Impey was awarded 1st place in Kids White Belt, with runner up being Quinn Martin. Joseph Collaine received 1st place in the Adults White Belt.
Brandon Hansen was awarded 1st place in Yellow belt. Achievement medallions and awards were received by locals, Tarnee Dimery, Logan Ward, Mason Munro, Seth Piers-Blundell, Trembi Ward and Darcy Paterson. Roy Russell-Osburn from Hervey Bay also received 1st place in White Belt.
This year the prestigious Student of the Year was awarded to the Hervey Bay based Aaron Clark, whilst the Instructor of the Year chosen by the students was awarded to Gold Coast instructor, Arran Montgomery.
Top awards were also presented to students from all the schools from Beenleigh, Hervey Bay and Townsville.
Each year a ‘Miss BMTS’ award is presented to represent the women in the Kungfu family who support their partners and families, with this year’s befitting recipient being local identity Leonora Thomsen.
‘We would personally like to thank Ian Richardson who again supplied the great trophies this year, Lidija Tobi for her superb catering, the talented Hervey Bay based musician Duncan McNeil, Loulita Hyland from Hyland Events for her beautiful decorating, and Whitey for the bus pickups and drop-offs,’ said Helen Hansen.
