Council Endorses New Gladstone Region Planning Scheme. After years in development and preparation, Gladstone Regional Council this week formally adopted the Gladstone Regional Planning Scheme 2015.
Gladstone Region Mayor Gail Sellers said the scheme, which meets State Government conditions of approval, would come into effect on Monday, 12 October.
“Since amalgamation, Gladstone Regional Council has operated under the former Gladstone City, Calliope Shire and Miriam Vale Shire councils’ planning schemes, and this key plan will provide a consistent approach to land use and development management throughout our entire region,” Councillor Sellers said.
“Having one planning scheme will allow Council to streamline processes and systems which will provide significant benefits to residents, business and our organisation.”
Cr Sellers said the plan would supersede the current Gladstone Plan 2006 (adopted December 12, 2006), Calliope Shire Planning Scheme 2007 (adopted April 13, 2007) and Planning Scheme for Miriam Vale Shire 2009 (adopted February 24, 2009).
Cr Sellers paid tribute to Council’s Planning Team and recognised the work undertaken by the Regional Strategy Team in conjunction with consultants Buckley Vann in the preparation and public notification of the Planning Scheme and the work completed by the Development Services team for taking the Scheme from the submission response stage through to today’s recommendation for adoption of the first Gladstone Regional Planning Scheme.
Between November 10 and December 19, 2014, Council undertook public notification of the proposed Planning Scheme involving a range of stakeholder presentations in Gladstone, various forms of media and community meetings in Gladstone, Calliope, Boyne Island, Agnes Water, Mount Larcom, Miriam Vale, Gladstone, Baffle Creek, Rosedale and Builyan.
A total of 186 submissions were received with individual responses provided to each submitter.
